Richard Mauze Burr, a member of the Republican Party, is the senior senator from North Carolina. He was formerly a member of the U. S. House of Representatives and currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Select Intelligence Committee.

Senator Burr is also a member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Senate Committee on Aging. His colleague, Thom Tillis, is also a Republican senator from North Carolina and serves on the Armed Services Committee, the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, the Judiciary Committee, the Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Special Committee on Aging. Senator Burr has had a long and successful career in politics. He was elected to the U.

House of Representatives in 1994 and served there until 2005 when he was elected to the U. Senate. In 2016, he ran for re-election against Democrat Deborah Ross and won with 51% of the vote. During his campaign, he was supported by President-elect Donald Trump and North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory (R).

The Senate Republican National Committee (NRSC) published ads attacking Ross for being too liberal for North Carolina by highlighting her career with the American Civil Liberties Union. In addition to his political career, Senator Burr has been recognized for his important work in communities across North Carolina. In 2017, Governor Roy Cooper introduced him to the Longleaf Pine Order for his contributions to the state.
