Richard Mauze Burr, a member of the Republican Party, is the senior senator from North Carolina. He was formerly a member of the U. S. House of Representatives and currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Select Intelligence Committee.

Senator Burr is also a member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Senate Committee on Aging. His colleague, Thom Tillis, is also a Republican senator from North Carolina and serves on the Armed Services Committee, the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, the Judiciary Committee, the Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Special Committee on Aging. House of Representatives in 1994 and served there until 2005 when he was elected to the U. Senate. In 2016, he ran for re-election against Democrat Deborah Ross and won with 51% of the vote.
